The challenge
Paul Higgins runs Cheap-Taxis.com: pre-booked transfers between holiday airports and resorts, from Palma, Alicante and Reus to Verona, Málaga and Tenerife. His model is simple and unusual. The customer pays only a small booking fee to confirm, and the rest of the fare goes straight to the driver, in euros, on arrival.
The website had to make that model obvious at a glance, give a firm price straight away, and handle the details a transfer depends on: direction of travel, flight times, an optional return trip, passengers and luggage. Many people book from a phone, so it had to be just as quick there. And Paul needed to run bookings and the site himself, without calling a developer for every change.
What I built
I built the platform in Laravel. The home page leads with an instant quote form: pick the airport and resort (with a one-tap switch for the return direction), add the flight time and an optional return, count passengers and luggage, and get a fixed price with optional extras such as child seats.
The booking fee is taken online through Stripe, with cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. The balance is shown clearly as payable to the driver in EUR, so there are no surprises at the kerb. For routes that are not listed yet, or groups too big for the standard vehicles, a four-step request-a-quote form collects the same details and Paul replies with a fixed price.
Around the booking flow sit airport pages, destination pages, individual route pages, a blog and a help centre, which give travellers answers and give search engines something to rank.
Behind it all is a Filament dashboard where Paul manages bookings, routes and prices, airports, destinations and the site content from one place.
The result
Cheap-Taxis.com is live. Travellers can book a transfer in under three minutes on desktop or mobile, the business takes only the booking fee upfront, and Paul runs day-to-day operations from the dashboard.
The service holds a 4.8 average rating across Google, Trustpilot and Feefo.
